Setup for Java Classes
Required Software
- Operating System
- PC: Windows 10 or later
- Mac: OS X Mountain Lion (version 10.8) or later
- Java: Amazon Coretto 17 Java Development Kit (JDK): you will find download and installation instructions below.
- IDE: unless otherwise directed, you should use IntelliJ as the development tool for your class. You will find download and installation instructions below.
Instructions
There are three steps to setting up your computer for class:
- Download and install Java.
- Download the appropriate class files and unzip them.
- Download and install IntelliJ (unless otherwise directed).
1.Download and Install the Amazon Coretto 17 Java Development Kit (JDK)
- Click here to go to the Amazon Coretto 17 JDK download page.
- Scroll through the list of download links to find the link for you operating system. For example, for Windows x64 download the .msi file.
- Install the JDK on your computer. For example, for Windows x64 double click the .msi file to install the JDK.
2. Download and Unzip Your Class Files
- The first step is to create the folder in which you will store your class files: Create a new folder named Webucator wherever you want, but make sure you remember where it is.
- Download the class files from the bottom of this page (if you don’t already have them) for your course and unzip them into the Webucator folder. This will create a folder called ClassFiles.
3. Get the IDE
Download IntelliJ (the Community edition will work fine for this course) from https://www.jetbrains.com/idea/download and install it.
Note that if you have been instructed to use a different IDE or editor, you should download and install that one instead.
